Abstractions rooted in landscape, or perhaps landscapes tied to abstraction, these paintings are derived from photographs capturing the pools of water that intermittently collect on the sidewalks near my Edmonton home. I imagine the puddle as a microcosm of the surrounding urban landscape – encompassing earth, trees, sky, architecture, and even litter. Embracing ambiguity and a little quirkiness, the naturalistic rendering of the landscape becomes secondary.
